Or maybe you’re tired of the nagging back pain and postural issues caused by overly large breasts. You’ve probably heard the lingo: implants and lifts and reductions. You may have also heard conflicting information. Before deciding on a life changing procedure, it is important to learn about the various kinds of breast enhancement available. Here is an Eberbach crash course to get you up to speed on the different procedures, and who they can benefit the most. There are also photo galleries on each page that show before and after photos of patients.
Breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States and includes many different approaches to altering breast size and shape. Breast implants are the best known augmentation approach. There are two main types of FDA-approved implants: saline implants and silicone implants. Both are made from a solid silicone, rubber shell; the shell is filled with either saline (sterile salt water) or elastic silicone gel. Women who opt for breast implants have usually been dissatisfied with the size of their breasts for some time and are ready to make an investment in their appearance.
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, refers to the position of a woman’s nipple. A breast lift can move the nipple into a perkier position and also reduce the fullness nipple to crease. There are full breast lifts or modified breast lifts, depending on the look you want. Often part of a “Mommy Makeover,” breast lifts are ideal for women who have children and are looking to get back to their pre-pregnancy bodies. Women who have lost a significant amount of weight and don’t like the saggy look of their breasts can also opt for a breast lift, which moves the nipples higher up on the chest and restores a more youthful firmer look.
Both women and men are candidates for breast reduction, also called reduction mammoplasty. Men with gynecomastia (larger mammary glands in men), women who have overly large breasts, often opt for this surgery. For both women and men, breast reduction can help ease their pain. For women, the incisions of a breast reduction are the same as a wise pattern breast lift and look like an anchor.
Breast Implant Removal
Breast implants have no expiration date. They are safe to keep for up to 25 years. However, breast implants can develop issues like capsular contracture or implant rupture over time. This can be painful and can cause aesthetic issues, and the patient may need to undergo breast implant removal to address these problems. Implant removal is also ideal for patients who simply no longer want to have their implants.
Male Breast Reduction
Male breasts may develop due to a number of factors, including weight gain, genetics, certain medications, various medical issues, and recreational drug use. This condition is known as gynecomastia. Male breast reduction, or gynecomastia surgery, removes excess glandular breast tissue, fat, and/or skin for a more masculine appearance.
During a consultation with Dr. Eberbach or Dr. Tamer, you will be asked about your appearance goals, and a physical assessment will be conducted.
