Orbera Balloon

Eberbach Plastic Surgery (Division of IBI Healthcare Institute) offers a variety of the most advanced bariatric weight loss programs and procedures to assist you on a weight loss journey. One of the many procedures we offer is the ORBERA® gastric balloon – a weight loss procedure that helps to lose up to 60 lbs without surgery. A weight loss balloon is a tool for taking control of the way you eat.

WHAT IS THE ORBERA® BALLOON?

The ORBERA® intragastric balloon system is a bariatric weight loss procedure, that uses a gastric stomach balloon made out of soft silicone that occupies space in the stomach. With less stomach space available, patients are forced to adapt to healthier portion sizes, ultimately leading to improved weight loss.

It has been shown that with the Orbera gastric balloon, patients lose up to 3X the weight of diet and exercise alone! Moreover, the procedure is a two-part weight loss program designed to provide effective, motivating results that you can see.

  • A soft balloon is placed in your stomach through the mouth without surgery or any incisions.
  • The balloon stays in the stomach for six months to reinforce proper portion control.
  • Taking up space in your stomach, the weight loss balloon helps you eat smaller meals.
  • Patients receive coaching from a team of experts for six months after the balloon placement.

IS THE ORBERA WEIGHT LOSS BALLOON RIGHT FOR YOU?

Orbera is a twelve-month journey, and getting the most out of this system means having a team devoted to your success. If the balloon is right for you, our group helps you use it to change your eating behaviors, and sustain that progress long after the balloon is removed. The weight loss balloon can help you lose three times the weight of diet and exercise. But the real results happen when you understand it’s not a shortcut, that it’s a tool for learning how to take control.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE ORBERA PROCEDURE?

Only a physician can tell you whether or not Orbera is right for you, that’s why a consultation is so important. However, if you are an adult suffering from obesity with a BMI above 30 and searching for a non-surgical weight loss solution, and you’ve tried diet and exercise without success, the gastric balloon can help you to reach your healthy weight.

HOW DOES THE ORBERA BALLOON WORK?

The Orbera gastric balloon is a non-surgical procedure that is done under a mild sedative. The thin and deflated ORBERA® balloon is placed into the stomach. It is then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes so you can go home the very same day. At six months, the gastric balloon is deflated first then removed under a mild sedative in the same way as it was placed.

WHY DOES THE STOMACH BALLOON WORKS?

  • Because you learn to listen to your body;
  • Because it helps you change your habits;
  • Because 6 months gives you time to re-program.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS AFTER THE ORBERA PROCEDURE?

The weight loss is rapid with the majority of weight loss typically occurring in the first three months of treatment. On average patients lost 3.1 times the weight loss of diet and exercise alone. The adjustments to your eating habits and your continued efforts to stay active will greatly influence your results. These 6 months, when the ORBERA® stays inside, are when patients see the most drastic weight loss results.

WILL I MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT LOSS AFTER REMOVING THE BALLOON?

After the balloon is taken out, the goal is to have the patient accustomed to healthy habits in order for them to maintain their hard-earned weight loss. It is important to remember that the weight loss balloon is only a tool to help build healthy, lifelong habits.

The aftercare program is part of the unique ORBERA® 2-Part Program that combines the 6-month placement of the gastric balloon with a 12-month coaching program.

CAN I RECEIVE DIET ADVICE?

During the entire 12-month weight loss program, patients will have regular face-to-face or virtual sessions with their treatment team. We will be there for you every step of the way!

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

Side effects that may result from the use of the ORBERA® intragastric balloon include risks associated with endoscopic procedures and the inability to accept a foreign object placed in the stomach.

OTHER POSSIBLE ORBERA BALLOON SIDE EFFECTS INCLUDE:

  • partial or bowel blockage;

PATIENT FINANCING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE

Eberbach Plastic Surgery (Division of IBI Healthcare Institute) believes that life-changing surgery should be available to all who need it. Unfortunately, for most patients, financial commitment can be a hindrance to their health.

At IBI we strive to provide the best possible care, surgical procedures, and weight loss options at competitive, but affordable, price points. Most patients can not afford to pay a lump sum out of pocket so we work with a few trusted companies to help patients find financing options that will work within their budget. Some of the financing plans allow for deferred payments for up to six months.

IBI works with both CareCredit and Prosper Healthcare Lending to help patients obtain financing so they can become healthier! CareCredit works similar to a credit card but is only accepted for healthcare expenses, but both companies offer multiple types of financing options.

Some offer patients reward points based on usage with interest rates as low as 14.9%. Patients may be granted credit lines from $200 to $35,000 or revolving credit lines which means lower monthly payments. Both companies offer zero prepayment penalties and terms as long as 60 months as well as a confidential application process that is fast and free for patients.

Utilizing one of the financing options available to qualifying patients can make weight loss possible and affordable.
