Liposuction
Liposuction is a wonderful tool. Chunky or heavy thighs, love handles, double chins and more can be eliminated with liposuction. It is a very safe and effective method of removing unwanted fat deposits from just about any part of the body. The result can be a slimmer, or flatter, or more sculptured body contour. It is often combined with other procedures such as abdominoplasty or lower body lifting provide an even better result.
Liposuction isn't for everyone however and there are inherent risks. This operative technique provides for often dramatic improvement in the patient's shape. Ultrasonic, tumescent, and power assisted techniques are variations on a theme and each have their place. Following surgery, you wear a snug, tightfitting "girdle" for several weeks. This reduces swelling and helps the skin shrink to your new body's shape. There can be some temporary bruising or skin discoloration after having liposuction. The area that is liposuctioned may also feel numb or firm to the touch for a short time. Overall, most patients can resume their normal day-to-day schedule within a few days.
The average healing time is about six weeks but contour changes may continue for many months. It is important to understand that liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise, nor a cure for obesity. To get the most from this procedure, you should be of average weight with extra fat localized to specific areas. Liposuction removes only fat, it cannot eliminate dimpling or correct skin looseness. These problems require some form of skin tightening such as an abdominoplasty, or thigh lifting for example.
