Liposuction Tampa Bay, Florida

Liposuction, also referred to as “lipo”, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that sculpts your body by removing fat from it. When Dr. Eberbach  or Dr. Tamer performs this procedure, a small puncture is made in the skin and a tool called a “cannula” is used to loosen fat cells and suction them out. Common areas for fat removal include the stomach, flanks, lower back, thighs, and arms. Liposuction is often combined with other procedures including tummy tucks and thigh lifts.

When to Consider Liposuction

  • If you have localized areas of fat deposits that are disproportionate with the rest of your body.
  • If you would like more definition or a sleeker contour in certain areas of your body.
  • If your skin elasticity is good (Liposuction removes fat, but does not tighten skin).

What are the Types of Liposuction Procedure?

Even though there are different types of liposuction techniques, the one thing that they have in common is that they involve using a cannula, a thin tube connected to a vacuum for sucking the fat out of the body.

Tumescent liposuction is one of the most common techniques used for liposuction. Using this method, Dr. Eberbach will insert a sterile solution into the targeted area from where the fat must be removed. The sterile solution consists of saline (salt water) along with epinephrine and lidocaine. It is because of this solution that the suction process is carried out with less pain and blood loss.

Laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo) makes use of an advanced and highly precise laser that can target and liquefy the fat in the treatment area.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) involves using sound wave energy applied right under the skin to rupture the fat cell walls. It liquefies the fat making it ready to be sucked out.

What to Expect from the Liposuction Procedure?

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day of the surgery. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure since you will be tired.

Before the liposuction procedure begins, your surgeon will mark the body parts that must be treated. Next, anesthesia will be administered to help keep you comfortable during the liposuction process. Dr. Eberbach or Dr. Tamer will then make the necessary incisions and utilize the chosen liposuction technique to remove fat from the treatment area. After the corrections are made, the small incision will be closed.

I had an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with liposuction. Dr. E and his staff are courteous and professional. All guidelines and timelines were honest. For example, I was told I could return to work at the 7-10 day mark – sooner if I had a sitting job, later if I had a standing job. I returned to work on day 8 (I stand all day at work), and day 10 would have been perfect. Day 8 was probably a wee bit early. They were right on the mark, so listen closely to recommendations and guidelines. My tummy tuck turned out great and am thrilled that I did it! I no longer wear Spanx and bought a two-piece bathing suit for the first time in twenty years. I am in my early 50’s and have the belly button of a twenty-five year old! If you are going to lose weight, do it first. I had my consult with Dr. E (who answered every question I had and was extremely patient), and lost 32 pounds in the year prior to surgery. I’m so glad I did. I have never felt better about my body. I had a tummy flap that would not go away, even with diet and exercise. I would recommend Dr. E without hesitation, and would definitely use him again if the need arose.
